Poop

Autumn poops in Daddy's arms.

Apparently before I arrived at the nursery yesterday, the baby next to Autumn had a few visitors...The visitors called the nurses over to check on Autumn because her tiny little belly was making a lot of noise...hehe. Squirrel's gas was disturbing the peace in the nursery. The last photo is Daddy telling Autumn how stinky she is. Haha!

We are heading back to the hospital shortly and my fingers are crossed that the feeding tube will be out of her nose. It needs to be out for 14 hours before they will discharge her. The numbers are really frustrating, but at least we know that the nurses and doctors are thorough. Till next time..

Day 11

We have been in the NICU now for 11 days...Squirrel is doing super well...Gaining weight, eating like a champ, being adorable and generally awesome. So, today Evelyn (you know, the nurse who wanted Autumn to stay with her forever) asked that we bring in our car seat to make sure that our tiny girl fits...I guess the nurses have to sign off that they have checked that your car seat meets transport canada guidelines and that your preemie is snug enough...Most car seats are too big for itty bitty people 5lbs and under. This was music to my ears, because this means they're getting ready to discharge her. Tonight, the nurses called Dr. Hadad so that we could sort out our going home details. He seems to think that we will be able to take baby girl home mid-late week...Before the weekend. Excellent!

This has been a crazy 11 days. I must say that I don't think I would have survived without my amazing man and super human friends and family....Did you know that when you have a baby, people fill your fridge with food? Seriously amazing.

Ten Days Old

So I'm pretty sure Autumn's nurse wants to keep her foreverrrrr! Last night, Squirrel's doctor told us that we'd likely be able to take her home on Sunday if she continued to nurse and breathe like a champ...Which she has. This morning, Nurse Evelyn advised us that it was a ridiculous notion that they might discharge the babe before next week. Annnyyyway, we're fine with it. It's actually kind of cute how much her nurse adores her. She actually traded another baby for Autumn this morning as she couldn't believe that they hadn't automatically assigned Squirrel to her. 

Productive visits last night and this morning!! Autumn didn't need to be topped up after either feed and we even got to give her a bath today! 

She was not impressed...

She screamed her little head off until she was back safe in her cot, wrapped in a warm towel. Poor baby squirrel. 

Autumn also got a good snuggle in with her Auntie Melissa, who drove all the way from San Francisco to visit her! Lucky baby.

They hope to have a successful bottle feed this afternoon so that they can remove the feed tube from her nose. It will be really nice to see her little face sans tape and tube. 

We think she's pretty cute anyway though...

She's out of the gerbil cage :)

Last night's feeding attempt went really well! So well that they barely needed to top the squirrel up after she nursed. The face that babies make when they are going in for the kill is hilarious! Who knew...
We're super proud of her. She's making my job really easy.

So Dr. Hadad explained that once we have feeding under control, that we'd focus on her temperature. After her dinner last night, the nurses moved Autumn from her gerbil cage to a cot.

So it looks like things are moving along nicely :)

Originally, they told us that she'd be in the nicu until her 35th or 36th week (she would have been 34 weeks in the belly on Wednesday) but if she keeps this up, we'll have her at home much sooner. What a little champ she is.
